Our Kiwanis club partners with the Yolo County Library — Winters branch to provide a community storytime and literacy resource event for local children. Local leaders in Winters and Yolo County gather to read children’s storybooks and perform upper shows as part of a story time. In partnership with multiple literacy-based and family-focused nonprofits, we host activities and crafts for children and informational resource tables for families to make connections with these groups.
Financial Literacy Workshop Volunteer Support
Our Kiwanis club works with the Winters Joint Unified School District to organize a crew of volunteers to help run tables in part of the Travis Credit Union’s Generation Wealth financial literacy workshop for eighth graders at Winters Middle School and seniors at Winters High School. The event is free for the students to participate in, and they gain experience in making financial-related life choices.
Kiwanis Builders Club Sponsor
Our Kiwanis club sponsors a Builders Club at Winters Middle School for all ages. Our advisor works with a WMS staff member to allow middle school students to learn about their leadership styles and gain new skills. We encourage and empower students to make change on campus and in their community through service projects and provide mentorship in their efforts.
Kiwanis K-Kids Sponsor
Our Kiwanis club sponsors a K-Kids Club at Shirley Rominger Intermediate School for all ages that attend there. Our advisors introduce students to the process of working on committees in group settings and selecting service projects to make an impact in their community.
We are working with Waggoner Elementary School to introduce a K-Kids Club to the younger elementary-aged students.
